Dr. J.E. Young, Patricia Hilliard-Nunn Visiting Assistant Professor, recommends “Harriet Tubman: Military Scout and Tenacious Visionary: From Her Roots in Ghana to Her Legacy on the Eastern Shore.” This account co-authored by a Tubman descendant is sure to provide greater insight into the fascinating life of Mrs. Tubman.

Dr. Taylor recommends “An Efficient Womanhood: Women and the Making of the Universal Negro Improvement Association” by Dr. Natanya Duncan. Duncan, a UF History PhD Graduate, is an associate professor of history and director of Africana studies at Queens College CUNY. An Efficient Womanhood engages the role of women, such as Amy Ashwood Garvey, Henrietta V. Davis, and Larua Adorkor Kofey, in shaping Black nationalism.
