On August 29, 2024, the Digital Media and Community Initiative (Run: DM.C) hosted its inaugural event, Politics, Movement, and Joy: A Meditation on Black Twitter, to celebrate the Hulu documentary series Black Twitter. Panelists included Arizona State’s Sarah Florini, Washington University in St. Louis’ Raven Maragh-Lloyd, and Hulu documentary participant Georgia Institute of Technology’s AndrĂ© Brock, Jr., join Run:\DM.C’s PI Kevin C. Winstead. The panel was moderated by the University of Florida’s own Jasmine McNeally.
Politics, Movement, and Joy: A Meditation on Black Twitter was made possible by generous funding from the Digital Inquiry, Speculation, Collaboration, and Optimism (DISCO) Network. The DISCO Network is a consortium of investigators working on the frontiers of digital technology, critique, making, and optimism. It is supported by funding from the Mellon Foundation and housed within the Digital Studies Institute at the University of Michigan.
Run:\DM.C is an initiative to foster community and train together experts and young scholars interested in digital media, digital humanities, and Africana Studies.
