AFAM at 2025 Convocation
September 14, 2025 | Leave a CommentOn August 24th, African American Studies and the Sankofa Society connected with incoming Gators at the Fall 2025 Convocation in the Reitz Union Ballroom. Faculty and student leaders shared the value of majoring or minoring in African American Studies, highlighting the program’s focus on Black history, culture, media, and social justice. It was a powerful start to the semester, rooted in community, scholarship, and purpose.

DMC Writing Retreat
September 14, 2025 | Leave a CommentThe Digital Media and Community Initiative welcomed scholars from the DISCO Network and across UF for a week-long writing retreat focused on Black digital studies, abolitionist media, and community-centered scholarship. Held July 26–August 3, the retreat featured interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty from Colgate, Maryland, Georgia Tech, and UF’s African American Studies, Journalism, and Computer Science departments.
