The African Diaspora Course

During the fall 2017 semester, Dr. Bryce Henson will be teaching the African Diaspora (AFA 3240).  This course meets the 6,000 word writing requirement and provides an overview of transnational fields of cultural contact, power and competing economic interests in which the African Diaspora developed.

The following books are required.

Anthem: Social Movements and the Sound of Solidarity in the African Diaspora by Shana Redmond.

Afro-Paradise: Blackness, Violence, and Performance in Brazil by Christen Smith.

Becoming Black: Creating Identity in the African Diaspora by Michelle Wright.

Electric Santeria: Racial and Sexual Assemblages of Transnational Religion.  New York by Aisha Beliso-DeJesus.
